Description

Indigenous Women play a pivotal role in advancing climate change mitigation, adaptation, and biodiversity preservation through their Indigenous knowledge and sustainable practices. However, they face unique challenges due to their close relationship with the environment, and climate change disrupts their age-old practices, impacting livelihoods and culture. A recent Report reveals that only 7% of the $1.7 billion climate pledge at COP26 has reached Indigenous communities, with no data on the share allocated to IW. The proposed session aims to explore a Gender-Just Transition, accessible climate finance, data gap solutions, and accountability mechanisms, ultimately increasing awareness and commitment to prioritize IW in climate finance reform, policy recommendations, accountability, and partnerships for accelerated climate action and equity.
