Description
Description: As the impacts of climate change intensify and projects in the name of development continue to devastate the land and natural resources, the consequences are significantly felt by Indigenous communities. As it relates to local and national climate policies and disaster risk reduction plans, the exclusion of marginalised communities, especially Indigenous and rural women and youth, constitutes discrimination and injustice, restricting their ability to articulate their demands and devaluing their experience, knowledge, and indigenous science towards potential solutions to these ongoing crises. For many Indigenous women and girls, the focus now must be on reversing setbacks and limiting the damage to their lives and livelihoods in the future. Indigenous women will need to join forces and push duty bearers in order to achieve their rightful leadership and participation in order to leave no one behind in these crises. This session will give women and feminist leaders across Asia the opportunity to share their lived experiences with change and environmental degradation and recommend women-led and feminist solutions towards climate environmental justice.
